3 Case Studies On Getting Started
I spent much of last week talking about not waiting for the perfect moment. But this is really useless unless you know what you want to do and have a path to get there. Today I wanted to highlight 4 case studies of getting started, taking action and creating your own “perfect timing.” These are not all Internet Marketing and online businesses. So don’t tune out of you think all big “aha” moments need to come from creating an Internet Business, although that is the best place to start.
Let’s get started.
Kap Kallous
Kap is one of my closest friends in the music industry and one hell of a rapper. He built one of the most impressive indie artist resumes in Orlando, opening for acts like Murs, Jean Grae, Joel Ortiz and countless others. He won battles, hosted events (like the infamous tag team battles) and became a well known figure as the head of Grind Time Now South. All while putting out albums on his own (Over Rap Music) with the Suburban Legends, Caveman Theory and now Smash City Gauntlet.
But still, it wasn’t enough to make a career. So he decided it was time to act. To take action to change his career. He packed his things and flew out to LA. In the matter of a few weeks was opening shows, taking over the local scene and even locking down an indie deal with Ever Ready Records. Now his new album is out and distributed worldwide - I Should Have Kept My Mouth Shut (get it on iTunes).
If he decided to stay in Orlando and wait for something to happen, he would probably still be waiting (and working a lame day job to continue his hip-hop dreams). But Kap decided that he needed to be where the action was, and got himself a one-way ticket to advance his life. Timing wasn’t perfect, but by taking the opportunity he now is one step closer to whatever his end goal is.

Impressto

When you see a need, and you have some talent, you need to act and that is exactly what Derek Kohn has been able to do with Impressto. Fed up with stock photography sites and the lack of other outlets for designers to sell fonts, themes, backgrounds and more, he decided to rally the community together and create a marketplace that benefits the marketplace.
Derek didn’t wait to get started, and while the project didn’t happen overnight, he was able to keep the momentum high while inĀ variousĀ development phases. Finding local talent and using some of his own sweat equity, instead of wasting time looking for VC and angel money, his vision and passion was able to come to life.
If Derek decided to wait to get some startup capital, there is a good chance he would still be waiting. Taking the opportunity that was in front of him was the best option to get a kick ass product off the ground and now the sky is the limit.
You can signup to be invited to their private Beta here if you are an artist or designer looking to showcase your work, or if you are looking to buy high (and I mean high) quality designs for your ads, blogs, sites and anything else that needs a little shine to it.
BandWPThemes
This is one of my own products that I launched last year with 2 great partners, Andrew Norcross and Brett Burky. Brett and I were talking about the project one night at a networking event and although I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time, I never really took any ownership and just let it float there in idea land.
Next thing I know, Brett is calling me the next morning talking about mock-ups and getting designs and logos done. Within a week we had a logo, a domain and rough drafts of the look and feel of the Wordpress Theme. Then I got on the phone with Norcross and he was on board. And BandWPThemes was officially happening.
Within a month of that first idea session we were filming the sales video and getting JV partners. Within 2 months of that idea over 50 bands were using the theme and we had some money in the bank and covered all of our initial expenses for design, marketing, etc.
Click here to check out the theme and the sales messages behind it.
Again, it was the action of just getting the idea of the ground that grew legs and has become one of my most successful and consistent products I have in the marketplace today.
How Can You Take Action Today?
There has been a lot of talk about action here, huh? Kinda seems redundant, doesn’t it? But the thing is, most people choose not to take action and continue on with their regularly scheduled lives.
How are you taking action? Take action and leave me a comment below.
Later this week, we are going to start talking about product creation and I might even sneak in some info on the first official release from Ambitious Profits. Who knows.
